KOTA BHARU, June 10 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Department of Veterinary Services (JPV) has treated 10 cats injured in the fire at Kampung Gok Kapur and provided feed assistance for pets and livestock belonging to victims of the tragedy.
Kelantan JPV Director Dr Yahasmida Yaacob said 10 personnel from the department had been deployed to the scene to assess the condition of residents' pets requiring assistance and treatment.
She said the veterinary team also conducted examinations on animals that were rescued from the fire, which destroyed 27 houses in the area.
“As of today, we have treated 10 cats affected by the fire, including those suffering from burns and minor injuries caused by flying embers and intense heat. In addition, two cats died in the incident,” she told reporters at the scene today.
Dr Yahasmida said that besides providing immediate treatment at the site, the department had also distributed feed supplies to owners of pets and livestock affected by the fire.
She said the assistance was aimed at ensuring the welfare of the animals and that they continued to receive adequate feed while their owners were still facing difficulties following the loss of their homes and belongings.
“Kelantan JPV is also ready to provide follow-up treatment for animals requiring further monitoring.
“Residents only need to contact the nearest veterinary office to obtain follow-up treatment services if their pets require further examination,” she said.
Meanwhile, resident Tuan Wahida Amani Tuan Khairul Anuar, 33, said she managed to rescue four cats roaming around the residential area when the fire broke out.
She said three of the animals sustained injuries from the blaze, including burns to their paws, noses and parts of their heads.
“Thankfully, Kelantan JPV personnel came to the scene today and helped provide treatment to the cats that were rescued,” she said.
Last Monday, 27 houses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Gok Kapur, and the forensic team from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia is still investigating the cause of the incident.
