Kedah Immigration Arrests 29 Illegal Immigrants In Bukit Selambau Blitz

SUNGAI PETANI, June 10 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Immigration Department arrested 29 illegal immigrants during a raid at a formica flooring manufacturing factory in Bukit Selambau near here, yesterday.

In a statement today, the department said the arrests were made during an operation launched by the Immigration Enforcement Division’s Action Unit following intelligence gathering and public tip-offs. The operation began at around 10 am, and a total of 199 individuals were screened.

According to the statement, those checked comprised 20 locals, 127 Bangladeshis, 25 Nepalese, 22 Chinese nationals, and five Myanmar nationals.

"Following checks, 29 foreigners aged between 27 and 53 were detained for various immigration offences. They comprised 24 Bangladeshi men and five Myanmar men.

"Initial investigations revealed that 26 of them committed offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and staying in the country without a valid pass or permit," the statement read.

The department added that two other individuals were detained on suspicion of overstaying under Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act, while another was held for violating Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for breaching the conditions of their pass.

During the operation, the department also issued two Form Imm.29 (Summons to Witness) notices to employers or premises owners to assist in further investigations. All detainees have been sent to the Belantik Immigration Depot for documentation and further action.
