KUALA KRAI, June 10 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) has allocated RM500 million for the construction of the Machang Water Treatment Plant, which is expected to commence at the end of this year.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Jaseni Maidinsa said the plant will be capable of supplying up to 120 million litres of treated water per day upon its expected full completion in 2030, thereby strengthening Kelantan’s long-term water supply security.
“In addition, we have allocated RM145.8 million for the implementation of a project to replace 162 kilometres of old and deteriorated pipes throughout Kelantan over the next five years to reduce the rate of treated water losses,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating the PAAB Santuni MADANI Programme at the Kuala Krai MARA Junior Science College here today, which was also attended by PAAB chief executive officer Zulkiflee Omar.
Jaseni added that the completion of all the projects would help overcome the shortage of clean water supply faced by residents in the state.
