NAFAS Strengthens Fertiliser Supply Chain Resilience, National Food Security

11/06/2026 08:52 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- The National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS) continues to strengthen the resilience of the country's fertiliser supply chain through strategic measures to ensure the continuity of agricultural input supplies amid a dynamic global market.

NAFAS general manager Muhammad Faris Arriffin said that although the global fertiliser industry faces uncertainties in raw material prices, logistics costs, and geopolitical factors, NAFAS and its subsidiaries remain committed to ensuring a smooth fertiliser supply to the country's agricultural sector, thereby protecting farmers' welfare and interests.

"NAFAS constantly monitors global fertiliser market developments and implements proactive mitigation measures to ensure the continuity of fertiliser supply to farmers.

"Although procurement costs of raw materials remain high, our stock levels and availability of finished products are satisfactory to support the country's agricultural sector," he said in a statement today.

He added that current raw material stocks and finished product availability are sufficient to meet the nation's fertiliser supply requirements until August 2026.

Muhammad Faris said NAFAS's ability to maintain supply chain stability is reflected in its success in gaining the trust of the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) by winning a fertiliser supply tender to support farmers' needs in the MADA area.

He said the success reflects continued confidence in NAFAS's ability to provide a high-quality, competitive fertiliser supply that meets the country's agricultural sector requirements.

In addition to strengthening raw material procurement planning and supply chain management, NAFAS continues strategic collaborations with the government and key industry players to expand access to sustainable and competitive supply sources.

According to NAFAS, the previously announced strategic cooperation between Malaysia and Australia is expected to positively impact the supply stability of critical raw materials for the fertiliser industry, particularly Christmas Island Rock Phosphate (CIRP), used in the production of compound fertilisers for the paddy sector.

At the same time, the nation's urea supply continues to be supported through a strategic partnership with Petronas, which plays an important role in ensuring the availability of key raw materials for domestic fertiliser production.

"NAFAS will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), the Farmers Organisation network and all stakeholders in strengthening the nation's fertiliser supply ecosystem.

"This continuous commitment reflects NAFAS' role as a strategic partner to the government in supporting agricultural sector productivity, strengthening national food security and ensuring that the welfare of the farming community remains a priority," the statement said.
