JASIN, June 12 (Bernama) -- The robotics contingent of Merlimau Polytechnic Melaka (PMM) brought pride to the institution after winning a gold medal and a silver medal at the 19th Malaysia FIRA Cup 2026 held in Kota Bharu this week.
PMM director Norizam Sekak said the achievement came in the FIRA Autonomous Car Challenge category, which also saw the institution crowned FAC Master.
“The achievement also qualifies PMM to represent POLYCC at the FIRA World Cup 2027, opening up an opportunity to showcase the institution on the international stage.
“PMM also won a silver medal and secured fourth place in the MyBOT FIRA Tower Challenge category,” he said in a statement here today.
Norizam said the accomplishment demonstrated that students in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes are capable of competing at a high level through innovation, creativity and problem-solving skills based on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
He said PMM would continue to strengthen student talent development efforts to ensure greater success at both national and international levels.
The competition, themed ‘Robotics Igniting Future Solutions’, was officiated by Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim at Kota Bharu Polytechnic yesterday.
