PETALING JAYA, June 15 (Bernama) -- The National Cooperative Movement of Malaysia (ANGKASA) will table a RM257 million budget at its 40th annual general meeting (MAPA 2026), involving several strategic projects to strengthen the country’s cooperative ecosystem.
Its president, Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah, said the matter would be presented to the delegates for consideration and approval at the June 27 meeting.
He said that among the key components of the plan are equity ownership in the digital banking ecosystem, the implementation of ANGKASA’s digital takaful project and the development of the CoopCity project.
“This is a stepping stone that will serve a the foundation for us to move forward to meet demands and opportunities, whether at the domestic, Asian or international level,” he said at the MAPA 2026 media conference here today.
Abdul Fattah said that the three components are capable of strengthening ANGKASA’s position in the digital economy sector, while creating new opportunities for the cooperative movement to be more competitive.
He added that MAPA 2026 serves as a crucial platform for obtaining a mandate from delegates in determining ANGKASA’s strategic direction for 2027.
“MAPA 2026 will also discuss various matters related to governance, management and ANGKASA’s Business Plan for the 2027 financial year, as a whole,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Fattah said ANGKASA has also submitted a resolution to the government to consider increasing the development allocation for the cooperative sector to RM500 million under Budget 2027.
He said this is important to enhance the contribution of the cooperative sector, which has about 7.3 million members, to the country’s socio-economic development.
MAPA 2026 will be held in a hybrid format via the Zoom Meeting application, with the broadcast centre located at the ANGKASA Auditorium, Wisma Ungku A. Aziz, Kelana Jaya.
The meetig is expected to bring together 5,753 cooperative delegates from various economic sectors to assess achievements, discuss current challenges and set priorities for the national cooperative movement.
