Muslims Welcome 1 Muharam With Spiritual Programmes At Mosques, Suraus Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- Muslims across the country tonight welcomed the arrival of 1 Muharam by filling mosques and suraus with various spiritual activities held in conjunction with the Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration.

The programmes included Yasin recitations, end-of-year and new-year Hijrah prayers, congregational prayers, religious talks and supplications involving worshippers of all ages, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the Islamic calendar.

The annual observance not only commemorates the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad SAW, but also serves as an opportunity for self-reflection, strengthening faith and renewing commitments to enhance acts of worship while seeking Allah SWT's blessings, guidance and mercy.

In PUTRAJAYA, more than 1,000 worshippers attended the National Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M Prayer Recital and Tausiyah programme at Putra Mosque, which was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

The programme, which began at 4 pm, featured various spiritual activities, including Quranic tadabbur sessions led by renowned preacher and qari such as Ustaz Hassan Adli, Ustaz Tirmizi Ali and Ustaz Aiman Ridhwan.

In MELAKA, the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration was held at Masjid Falihin Kampung Alai in Merlimau and officiated by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman, as well as more than 500 guests.

A total of 13 awards were presented, including the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award, Public Service Personality Award, Enforcement Personality Award and Exemplary Family Award.

In SELANGOR, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah presented the Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1448H Award to former Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof during the state-level celebration at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam.

Earlier, the Sultan attended the Majlis Ambang Hijrah, which featured end-of-year and new-year prayers led by Imam Abu Dzar Adanan and Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya respectively, after the Maghrib congregational prayer.

The ruler also attended a special Maal Hijrah lecture delivered by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies senior lecturer Dr Mohd Hapiz Mahaiyadin before joining the Isyak congregational prayer.

In PERAK, Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah graced the state-level Maal Hijrah 1448H celebration at Casuarina Convention Centre in Meru Raya here, accompanied by Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Di Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad was also in attendance.

Sultan Nazrin presented the Tokoh Maal Hijrah Award to former Perak mufti Datuk Seri Wan Zahidi Wan Teh and the Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq Award to Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid.

The Sultan also presented the Siti Khadijah Award to restorative dentistry specialist Dr Farah Syazwani Mohmd Tarmizi, the Saidina Ali Award to dental officer Dr Muhamad Adib Mohamad Mazri, the Asnaf Icon Award to visually impaired recipient Khairruddin Mazli and a Special Award to Temiar Orang Asli representative Othman Hamzah.

In NEGERI SEMBILAN, Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir graced the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration at Masjid Tuanku Muhriz in Bandar Seri Jempol.

Also in attendance were Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin, Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and more than 1,000 worshippers.

In his royal address, Tuanku Muhriz said leaders must discharge their responsibilities with integrity and always place the interests of the state and its people above all other considerations.

“Attitudes and actions that are imprudent or driven by narrow interests, such as the pursuit of power, do not reflect the qualities of responsible leadership,” the ruler said.

Tuanku Muhriz said only through an administration founded on the principles of good governance could the state's stability, peace and prosperity be preserved for future generations.

He also called on all parties to safeguard the stability and harmony that have long been the state's strengths and not allow power struggles and greed to undermine the peace and tranquillity enjoyed by all.

The National Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration will be held tomorrow at Putra Mosque in Putrajaya, with Sultan Nazrin scheduled to grace the event.

Meanwhile, in MELAKA, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the federal government had approved RM6.87 million for upgrading and improvement works involving 134 Islamic educational institutions across the state.

In his speech at the state-level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration at Masjid Al-Falihin Kampung Alai here tonight, he said the allocation reflected the federal government's continued commitment to strengthening the development of Islamic education and meeting the needs of religious institutions in the state.

“I would like to stress that the state government will never stop championing the needs of the people and bringing the concerns of religious institutions to the attention of the federal government.

“As long as there are avenues to pursue, we will continue striving to secure the best support and assistance for the advancement of Islamic education and the well-being of the ummah in this state,” he said.

Ab Rauf also said more than 1,500 religious programmes had been implemented across Melaka as of May this year, while more than 200 programmes have been planned throughout Muharram through the Melaka Islamic Religious Department and the Melaka Islamic Religious Council.

At the event, he also announced an allocation of RM68,000 for 13 Tokoh Maal Hijrah recipients in recognition of their contributions towards strengthening Islamic teachings in the state.
