KLUANG, June 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Army (TDM) personnel, Private Siti Khadijah Sungip, 24 who died after being hit by a bomb while undergoing grenade throwing training at Hobart Camp, Gurun, Kedah yesterday, was buried at 1.15 pm today.
A somber atmosphere enveloped the Taman Sri Lambak Muslim Cemetery here as family members, relatives, friends and military personnel attended to pay their last respects to the deceased.
At the funeral ceremony, the symbolic handover of the Jalur Gemilang to the deceased's heirs was officiated by the Commander of the 7th Brigade, Headquarters of the 7th Malaysian Infantry Brigade, Mahkota Camp, Brigadier General Datuk Zulhelmy Masdar to the deceased's father, Sungip Jais, 65.
Earlier, the deceased's body completed the post-mortem at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), Alor Setar at about 2.30 am before being brought back here.
The body of the deceased, accompanied by the First Field Troop Leader, Lieutenant Muhammad Lutfil Hadi Osman, along with four members of the First Squadron of the Royal Engineer Regiment (RAJD), Sangro Camp, Taiping, Perak, arrived at her parents' residence in Taman Sri Lambak at 12.10 pm before being taken to the Darul Iman Mosque for prayers.
The funeral prayer was led by Major Mohd Azlan Shah Abdul Razak from the TDM Field Engineering Institute (IKM).
In the incident at 10.57 am yesterday, the deceased and another member, Corporal Norazmi Abu Bakar, were confirmed dead on the way to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH), Sungai Petani due to serious injuries following the explosion.
TDM in its statement informed that the two victims involved in the incident were Corporal Norazmi from the Sixth Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) and Private Siti Khadijah from the First Squadron of the Royal Engineer Regiment (RAJD).
According to TDM, both personnel suffered injuries due to an explosion while undergoing training at the target range.
