19/06/2026 05:11 PM

BUTTERWORTH, June 19 (Bernama) -- The history of the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) and the stories of the beneficiaries of Tabung Kasih@HAWANA are now immortalised through a special photo gallery set up in conjunction with the celebration of the HAWANA 2026 Summit here.

Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the gallery is divided into two main segments, namely highlights of HAWANA since its organization from 2018 to 2025, as well as a visual display of the recipients of Tabung Kasih@HAWANA aid.

Nur-ul Afida who is also the chairman of the HAWANA 2026 Working Committee, said the exhibition is an important platform to showcase Bernama's active role as the secretariat of Tabung Kasih@HAWANA and the celebration's implementing agency, which has so far been behind the scenes in reporting news.

“The main message of this exhibition is of course to appreciate the role of the media and their participation in the celebration that is held specifically for them.

“At the same time, we want to inform how this initiative has succeeded in helping our media friends and veterans who are challenged with health issues and life difficulties. This is what we want to present,” she said after reviewing the preparations for the HAWANA 2026 Summit here today.

She said the visual display also hoped to recall the memories and experiences of media practitioners who had been involved in previous HAWANA celebrations.

The HAWANA 2026 Summit, which will be held at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Arena Butterworth tomorrow, is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, Bernama Photo Desk editor Mohamad Bakri Darus said the selection of photos was carefully done by the Bernama team and each photo is accompanied by bilingual captions in Malay and English to make it easier for visitors to understand the context of the display.

“Here, we can get information that this HAWANA also helps the journalism industry and shows how the media always moves together with society,” he said.

Mohamad Bakri said the exhibition also recalled the previous HAWANA venues, namely Kuala Lumpur (2018 and 2025), Melaka (2022), Ipoh, Perak (2023) and Kuching, Sarawak (2024).

Among the main programme contents displayed included the Strategic Partner Meeting, Media Forum, HAWANA-DBP Pantun Festival, HAWANA Carnival and Exhibition as well as HAWANA Sports.
