21/06/2026 05:12 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- More than 300 worshippers, mostly youths, gathered at Masjid Usamah bin Zaid in Wangsa Maju as early as 4am today for a Qiyamullail programme before watching a World Cup match screening, in an initiative aimed at promoting a wisdom-based approach to dakwah.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hassan said the programme showed that young people's interest in football could be integrated with meaningful spiritual activities.

"This is Dakwah Bil Hikmah. We celebrate the interests of young people while spreading goodness and compassion. Fastabiqul khairat," he said in a post on his official Facebook page today.

Before the match, participants performed Qiyamullail prayers and attended a tawsiyah session delivered by the Federal Territories Mufti.

They then watched the 2026 World Cup Group E match between Germany and Ivory Coast, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Germany.

During half-time, national football legend Shahril Arsat and former Selangor FA President's Cup player Khushairi Aizad shared their analysis of the match and both teams' playing styles.

Also in attendance were Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) chief executive officer Datuk Nizam Yahya and Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) deputy director-general Datuk Ajib Ismail, who joined Dr Zulkifli and the Federal Territories Mufti in preparing roti canai for breakfast for the worshippers.

The programme was organised with the cooperation of various agencies, including the Federal Territories Mufti Department, JAKIM, MAIWP, Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), Malaysian Islamic Dakwah Foundation (YADIM), Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPEIM), the mosque management, Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM), Persatuan Menembak Agama (PMA) and food sponsors.
