KOTA KINABALU, June 22 (Bernama) -- Nabawan now has its first Form Six Centre building, marking another significant milestone in efforts to strengthen educational development in Sabah's interior.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, who is also Pensiangan MP, said the long-awaited facility reflects the continued commitment to ensuring students in the district have access to quality education.
He said educational development has always been among his priorities as the area's representative, and the project was initiated several years ago, with the groundbreaking ceremony held in June 2023.
“With the new Form Six Centre building, equipped with various dedicated facilities for students and teachers, my aspiration to advance educational development for the people and district in the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency is gradually becoming a reality,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Located about 179 kilometres south of Kota Kinabalu and nearly three hours away by road, Nabawan is one of the districts within the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency.
Arthur said developing communities and the interior areas of Sabah, particularly Pensiangan, is no easy task, as it requires careful planning and the implementation of a well-structured long-term action plan.
He said the development plans formulated earlier are now beginning to bear fruit, as reflected in the various projects that have been implemented in the area.
“The implementation of this development plan began with the upgrading of the main road network extending to Pagalungan-Pensiangan and up to the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia, in addition to the construction of 55 telecommunications towers, a coffee processing plant in Sapulut, as well as economic and educational infrastructure facilities,” he said.
In the education sector, he said seven new schools are being developed, with three already completed, namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Trusmadi, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Inandung and SK Simbuan, while four others are under construction: SK Rancangan Belia Tiulon, SK Ambual, SMK Dalit and an extension to SK Pensiangan.
