Month-long Free LRT3 Fare Gives Public Chance To Try New Service

KLANG, June 28 (Bernama) -- The announcement of a month-long free fare for the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT) Shah Alam Line has been well received by commuters, especially students, who view the initiative as an effort to reduce daily transport costs, while giving the public the opportunity to try out the new service. 

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Bachelor of Journalism student Arissa Ahmad Khairul, 22, described the free fare initiative as very helpful for students who previously relied on e-hailing services or parental assistance to commute.

“As a student, I feel that this initiative is very helpful. The free fare, coupled with the more comfortable train facilities, will surely help students reduce our transport costs.

“This line will also facilitate my journey from Kepong to UiTM Shah Alam via Bandar Utama, thus saving time,” she told Bernama.

Meanwhile, media personnel Yasmin Ahmad, 25, described the month-long free fare as a proactive measure that will allow more people to try out the new service without having to worry about the travel costs.

She said the initiative not only helps reduce the financial costs of commuters, but also provides an opportunity for the public to familiarise themselves with the Shah Alam Line before it becomes part of their daily travel routine.

“As for me, the free fare period gives commuters the opportunity to see for themselves the advantges of using public transport, including time and cost savings compared to using private vehicles,” she said.

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Students’ Representative Council president Mohamad Adib Hazim Mohamad Razali said the opening of the Shah Alam Line wil greatly benefit students, especially those those living off-campus.

“Out of about 42,000 UiTM students, only about 13,500 live in residential colleges, while the rest live off-campus. With the UiTM station in place, it will surely make it easier for students living in Kuala Lumpur and Subang Jaya to commute.

“They can now travel more easily using public transport, while saving on daily costs compared to using e-hailing services or private vehicles,” he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the LRT3 Shah Alam Line will offer free rides to all passengers for one month starting tomorrow (June 29) until July 31.

The prime minister added that the free fare initiative will also apply to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana)-operated feeder bus services along the Shah Alam Line.
