PERKESO Channels Benefits Of Almost RM3.5 Mln To Workers, Beneficiaries In Kelantan

PASIR MAS, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has channeled almost benefits worth almost RM2.5 million to workers and beneficiaries from January to June this year.

Its Kelantan deputy director, Nor Aziemah Ismail said the largest amount involved Temporary Disablement Benefit (TDB) payments under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969, totaling RM2.388 million.

"The benefit is provided to contributors who suffer workplace accidents that temporarily prevent them from carrying out their duties.

"PERKESO also disbursed RM73,000 in Dependants' Benefit payments to the next of kin of workers who died as a result of employment-related accidents," she said when met by reporters at Taman Mekasar here today, adding that nearly RM1 million had been paid out under the Funeral Benefit to the families of workers who died during the same period.

"Each eligible claim receives a payment of RM3,000, and we always prioritise approving these claims within 24 hours, provided all required documents have been submitted, to help the families manage funeral arrangements.

"Similarly, under the 24-Hour Employment Injury Scheme, PERKESO Kelantan has approved nine claims involving sick leave benefit payments to contributors so far," she said.

She explained that the scheme protects workers even if an accident occurs outside working hours, including while attending to personal matters.

"Among the approved cases were accidents that occurred while participating in a motorcycle convoy and while taking a child to tuition classes. To date, RM1,300 in sick leave benefit payments has been disbursed to the nine eligible recipients under the scheme," she said.
