LBS Foundation Launches 'Project AKAR' To Support Holistic Student Development

PETALING JAYA, June 29 (Bernama) -- LBS Foundation (LBSF), the philanthropic arm of property developer LBS Bina Group Berhad, has launched ‘Project AKAR’, a long-term school adoption programme aimed at supportng holistic student development. 

The foundation in a statement said under the strategic corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, it will adopt one school every three years with each cycle focusing on three key pillars namely Infrastructure, Learning and Sustainability.  

“These focus areas are designed to enhance the school environment, enrich learning opportunities and cultivate sustainable practices that create lasting benefits for students and the wider school community.

“This year, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungei Way has been selected as the inaugural beneficiary under the programme as part of the foundation's pivotal role in strengthening educational outcomes and promoting a safe inclusive learning environments,” it said.

Meanwhile, LBSF Board of Trustees chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Hock San said the project reflects the foundation's commitment to nurturing young minds and creating opportunities that go beyond the classroom while ensuring that every child has the support and environment needed to thrive.

“At LBS Foundation, we believe that meaningful change begins at the community level, especially through education. ‘AKAR’ which means ‘roots’, symbolises the children who represent the foundation of our future,” he said.

Selangor State Executive Councillor for Islamic Affairs and Innovation Culture Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, who is also Seri Setia assemblyman, said the initiative is a commendable and impactful effort that would bring meaningful benefits to strengthening education and youth development.

“This initiatives play an important role in uplifting community well-being and fostering long-term social impact,” he said while expressing hope for more fruitful collaborations between the corporate sector and educational institutions in the future.

Officially launched on June 25, ‘Project AKAR’ (Awareness, Knowledge, Actions and Resilience) also featured a symbolic tree-planting session by Lim and Mohammad Fahmi, signifying a shared commitment to sustainability and nurturing future generations. 

As part of the programme, the foundation has also supported the school by providing essential stationery and back-to-school supplies, as well as carrying out key repairs to important school infrastructure, including doors and staircase railings.
