23/01/2020 08:15 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan  23 -- China has imposed a quarantine on Wuhan in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak there, the Health Ministry shared on its official Twitter site today.

Its Twitter feed said the 11 million people living there are barred from leaving.

"All public transportation like buses, subways, ferries have stopped operating from 10 am on Jan 23. The airport there is also closed and all flights out of Wuhan have been cancelled," the post stated.

The media yesterday reported that 11 people have died because of the outbreak while about 400 more people have been infected.

On Monday, China's National Health Commission had confirmed human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus.

Prior to that, it was suspected that it could only spread to humans upon exposure to sick animals.
