KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Buying support in selected heavyweights led by Axiata, Tenaga Nasional and YTL Corp have pushed the key index higher by 0.16 per cent at lunch break.
Axiata and Tenaga Nasional rose 12 sen each to RM2.62 and RM13.22 and YTL Corp was five sen better at RM2.59.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) notched up 2.48 points to 1,589.29 from Tuesday’s close of 1,586.81.
The index had opened 1.23 points firmer at 1,588.04 and traded between 1,585.21 and 1,590.12 during the morning session.
In the broader market, losers beat gainers 459 to 381, while 462 counters were unchanged, 1,291 untraded and seven suspended.
Total turnover stood at 1.64 billion units worth RM1.09 billion.
Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said in a research note that it foresees healthy buying support boosting its rebound momentum on the local front given Wall Street’s positive overnight performance.
“The US job revisions pointed to stronger rate cut bets. Also, the recent rollout of LSS5+ should support key solar players,” it said.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank was down five sen to RM9.99, Public Bank was flat at RM4.29, CIMB added five sen to RM7.21, IHH Healthcare accumulated six sen to RM7.00, Press Metal improved seven sen to RM5.60 and Hong Leong Bank trimmed two sen to RM20.08.
In active trade, VS Industry eased nine sen to 55 sen, Classita added one sen to 9.5 sen, Pharmaniaga was one sen higher at 22.5 sen and Tanco advanced 1.5 sen to 80 sen.
Among the decliners, Nestle lost 50 sen to RM95.60, Panasonic was 31 sen down to RM8.50, Dutch Lady slipped 26 sen to RM27.14, Hong Leong Financial erased 12 sen to RM17.26 and Petronas Chemicals down 11 sen to RM4.30.
On the broader index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 7.61 points to 11,780.45, the FBMT 100 Index bagged 8.45 points to 11,545.93, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was up 13.07 points to 11,759.13.
The FBM 70 Index dropped 30.32 points to 16,438.04 while the FBM ACE Index was 13.10 points weaker at 4,707.74.
By sector, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 1.14 points to 164.09, the Plantation Index slipped 17.39 points to 7,651.39, and the Energy Index slid 2.71 of a point to 737.68.
The Financial Services Index shaved 34.45 points to 18,092.87.
