Bursa Malaysia Stages Rebound, Key Index Adds 0.4 Pct At Midday

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia staged a rebound from yesterday’s loss and finished the morning session 0.4 per cent higher, tracking the performance of global stock markets.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) bagged 6.57 points to 1,589.42 from Thursday’s close of 1,582.85. The index had opened 5.19 points higher at 1,588.04 and fluctuated between 1,585.06 and 1,589.94.

The market breadth was positive with gainers leading decliners 513 to 380, while 437 counters were unchanged, 1,292 untraded and 11 suspended.

Turnover was 1.32 billion shares worth RM982.81 million.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said in a research note that Malaysia’s key index will continue its recovery after a slight pullback yesterday, following Wall Street’s positive performance overnight. “With technology giants reporting healthy spending on artificial intelligence chips, we believe buying support may spill over to local technology players as technology sub-indices experienced a breakout,” it said.

Among heavyweight counters, Maybank added four sen to RM9.81, Public Bank dropped one sen to RM4.21, and CIMB gained five sen to RM7.29. Tenaga Nasional was 14 sen better to RM13.36, IHH Healthcare improved nine sen to RM7.24, and Press Metal jumped seven sen to RM5.63.  

In active trade, Pharmaniaga and VS Industry were traded flat at 24.5 sen and 55 sen, respectively, while Tanco added 1.5 sen to 82.5 sen, and Zetrix AI was flat at 85 sen. 

Among top gainers, Nestle jumped RM1.50 to RM97, F&N earned 50 sen to RM27.50, KSL added 40 sen to RM2.37, and United Plantations gained 38 sen to RM22.92. 

On the broader index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 47.19 points to 11,802.23, the FBMT 100 Index improved by 46.61 points to 11,562.41, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 58.98 points to 11,834.93.  The FBM 70 Index gained 61.52 points to 16,530.26, while the FBM ACE Index rose 21.62 points to 4,771.33.

By sector, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 1.16 points to 165.49, the Plantation Index jumped 30.33 points to 7,715.89, and the Financial Services Index gained 12.56 points to 17,965.82. The Energy Index added 1.69 points to 739.22.
