KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) today refuted a message, made viral on WhatsApp, on a man wanted by the police on suspicion of being a serial rapist and selling human organs.
PDRM Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Secretariat Corporate Communications head Datuk Asmawati Ahmad said the police had not received verified information or report on incidence of kidnapping for human organs in the country.
“PDRM has detected a message viralled on WhatsApp, made under the name of ACP Datin Asmawati Ahmad, Assistant head of IGP Secretariat (Corporate Communications, claiming that a man, by the name of Mohd Faris Farhan Akhlaken Ahmad, is wanted by the police for being active in human organ selling and a serial rapist in this country and Thailand border.
“PDRM wants to confirm that the viralled message is not true and that it is a false message which has been repeated several times since 2014 to create baseless anxiety and fearing among the public,” she said in a statement tonight.
She also said that any official statement from her office would be made through official channels and not through WhatsApp.
Asmawati also advised the public not to easily believe baseless and unverified news.
“Sharing or disseminating such news will only create anxiety and fear in the society,” she said, and advised the public to contact the relevant authorities for confirmation of any news to avoid them becoming part of the source of false news.
