KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) -- A magnitude 6.3 earthquake jolted Samar island in the Philippines, at 1.37 pm today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the epicentre was 29 kilometres (km) east of the island and occurred at a depth of 88km.
However, there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia, the statement said.
Yesterday, the media reported that at least nine people died after a magnitude 6.1 temblor struck Zambales Province in Luzon Island, Philippines the same afternoon.
Several areas including Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Bataan, Pampanga, Baquio City, Cabanatuan City, Palayan City, Gapan City, Santo Domingo and Talavera, Nueva Ecija Baler and Aurora were also affected.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has confirmed that so far no Malaysians have been reported affected by the earthquake in Luzon.
