IPOH, July 27 (Bernama) -- Perak is committed to providing full cooperation to the Federal Government over the implementation of high-impact telecommunications development projects in the state.

State Communications, Multimedia, NGOs and Information Committee chairman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim said the state government had several strategic collaborations with the Federal government in place through various committees to ensure all the projects ran smoothly.

"Various development projects including telecommunications infrastructure that have been implemented and improved on in the state from time to time prove that the Federal Government is mindful of the benefits of communication technology to drive the country towards progress," he said.

He said this during his speech at the launch of the two-day digital carnival, ‘Kembara Digital Malaysia (KDM) 2019’, organised by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia in collaboration with the state government and Telekom Malaysia here, today.

Hasnul Zulkarnain was representing Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu. Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo was also present.

On the other hand, Hasnul Zulkarnain also warned the people of Perak not to misuse technology by spreading fake and negative news.

“The people of Perak are reminded to remain cautious and vigilant in all matters, especially on lies that are spreading widely on social media. If left unchecked, the act could endanger the country’s peace and security,” he said.

On KDM 2019, Hasnul Zulkarnain said the programme was intended to raise awareness on the importance of using digital technology such as social media in a positive manner.

The programme aims to provide public exposure and awareness of access to high-speed broadband services, promoting the benefits of going digital and providing awareness on the safe use of social media.

The digital carnival held in conjunction with the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah here, features about 50 exhibitors comprising broadband service providers, producers / distributors of ICT software and software as well as Federal and state government agencies.

It is open to the public from 10 am to 10 pm today and tomorrow, with no entry fee.
