KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The construction of a mosque by Antarabangsa, a non-governmental organisation in Kampung Thamer, Cambodia is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Mustapha Ahmad Marican said the mosque, which cost about US$ 100,000 (RM405,090), was the sixth mosque built by the organisation in Cambodia.
“The construction started since last May. It is made of bricks and it has a praying area for women at the upper level. The mosque also has a space for religious school or kindergarten as well as a field for sports.
“It is equipped with solar power so that the village does not need to face the expensive electricity rate here. In terms of water supply, several wells will be built for the facility,” he said in a statement here today.
He added that the construction of the mosque would benefit the villagers in carrying out their daily activities including education and religious activities.
Meanwhile, the Kampung Thamer Village Head, Scten Meen said the mosque would help to strengthen the relationship among the villagers as well as a new beginning for the residents of the remote village.
“The village is in dire need of a mosque as we have been living here for over 20 years. Most of us earn a living as paddy farmers and rubber tappers,” he said.
