KOTA BHARU, Aug 22 – For the first time ever, Kelantan is permitting female Muay Thai fighters to join state-level competitions.

Kelantan Boxing Association (PSBNK) president, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Fared Abdul Ghani, said it gives female athletes a fighting chance to exhibit their talent.

“In other countries, Muay Thai promises high earnings for women fighters. We hope that with this opportunity, state athletes can hone their talent.

“It also gives PSBNK a chance to activate talent among female fighters and fly the flag at bigger competitions,” he told Bernama today.

Prior to this, Muay Thai fighters in Kelantan were only men, but with this latest decision by the state government, PSBNK is confident it will be able to introduce female athletes with great talent who will compete according to Islamic rules.

“It is a positive development for Muay Thai in Kelantan and women here. It provides an opportunity to give more exposure to female athletes to prepare for Sukma in Johor next year,” he said while expressing his gratitude to the state sports council and government for being open-minded.
