KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) -- The number of new COVID-19 daily cases dropped below the 15,000 mark yesterday when 13,336 cases were recorded bringing the cumulative number of confirmed  cases in Malaysia to date to 4,152,203, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said of the new cases yesterday, 13,225  or 99.17 per cent were in categories one and two while 111 cases or 0.83 per cent involved categories three, four and five.

“A total of 43 cases or 0.32 per cent were in category three, 32 cases (0.24 per cent) in category four and 36 cases (0.27 per cent) in category five,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he said only two states registered COVID-19 critical or intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy of over 50 per cent, namely Selangor at 55 per cent and Johor at 52 per cent.

However four states recorded  over 50 per cent usage of non-ICU beds  namely Putrajaya (87 per cent), Selangor (68 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (53 per cent) and Melaka (51 per cent).

Dr Noor Hisham added that the national COVID infectivity rate or Rt value recorded yesterday was 0.92, with Selangor recording the highest value at 1.08 and the lowest was Sabah at  0.65.
