JAKARTA, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- United Nations (UN) secretary general Antonio Guterres will attend the G20 summit in Bali this November, Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
In a statement today, it said Minister Retno Marsudi has expressed her appreciation to Guterres for the confirmation of presence during a meeting at UN headquarters in New York.
They discussed various global issues of mutual concern, including Myanmar. Retno also explained the preparation for the G20 Summit that will take place from November 15 to 16 November 2022.
She conveyed the importance of the G20 Summit being able to produce concrete cooperation that benefits the world, the ministry said.
Touching on Myanmar, Retno and Guterres have been disappointed that the ruling military junta did not show commitment in implementing the five-point consensus (5PCs) to end the conflict in the country.
However, Guterres reiterated his support for the 5PCs and believes communication and coordination between the UN and Indonesia will intensify when Indonesia chairs ASEAN next year, the ministry said.
The 77th session of UNGA began last Tuesday, while the High Level Week session starts from September 20 to 26 with theme, 'A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.'
