14/10/2022 11:27 PM

SHAH ALAM, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Volleyball Association (MAVA) will make the 2022 Sooka Super Series Volleyball League (SSSVB 2022), the platform to select players for the SEA Games national squad in Cambodia, next year.

Its president Hean Boon Yeow said the league, which is organised for the first time this year, will breathe new life into the national volleyball arena.

The league will see eight groups compete for the championship for four weeks starting today until Nov 6 at the Tanjung Besar Hall of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

"This league (SSSVB 2022), will allow our players game time to face the next tournament. I have also appointed five recruiters to select the players who show the best performance to represent Malaysia at the Cambodia SEA Games.

"Maybe we will look for a combination of 70 per cent young players and 30 per cent experienced players to be absorbed into the national team," he said when met by reporters after the launch of SSSVB 2022 here tonight.

Boon Yeow described SSSVB 2022 as the best platform to test the level of physical and mental fitness of local players with the participation of an international team, Amelia Indonesia.

For the record, the national volleyball squad at the Hanoi SEA Games, Vietnam in May finished last in the men's and women's categories.

Meanwhile, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) assistant treasurer Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali as the chef de mission (CDM) to the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games hopes that the SSSVB 2022 league can empower the involvement and participation of the country's young talents to be polished to represent the country at the biennial games.

The Cambodia SEA Games will take place from May 5 to 17 next year.
