INDONESIA

1. PRABOWO IN SAUDI TO TACKLE HAJ ISSUES -- THE JAKARTA POST

Indonesia’s haj management is set to become a key focus of President Prabowo Subianto’s first state visit to Saudi Arabia this week, officials have confirmed, as Jakarta faces mounting criticism over its poor handling of the annual pilgrimage. The President departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Tuesday and landed about 10 hours later at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah.

 

2. INDONESIA’S HISTORY REWRITE PROJECT TO OMIT 1998 MASS RAPES DESPITE TGPF FINDINGS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the 1998 mass rapes that occurred during Indonesia’s political turmoil will not be included in the government’s ongoing national history rewrite project, arguing the initiative aims to build a positive narrative that avoids deepening ethnic and communal divisions. This stance contrasts sharply with findings from the official independent fact‑finding team (TGPF), which documented dozens of rape cases during the unrest.

Lao aims to optimise domestic resources for sustainable development while reducing reliance on foreign aid. It will reform its public finance system to enhance tax collection through digital technology, investment in human capital and improved budget management.

The second phase to improve the operations of the Luang Prabang International Airport was launched in Vientiane on Tuesday. The Korea Aerospace University was selected as the implementing agency for the project.

The government will focus on developing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to strengthen national food security and increase exports to help the economy. Producers are advised to use local raw materials to improve the quality of goods for exports.

A military fighter jet has disappeared from radar and lost communications during a long-distance night training on July 1, about 130 kilometres southeast of Nay Pyi Taw. Investigators suspect a technical malfunction or bad weather may have led to the incident.

Singapore and Cambodia will deepen their collaboration in several areas, including renewable energy, high-quality carbon credits and trade in food products, as the two countries mark 60 years of diplomatic relations.

VIETNAM

1. VIETNAM, US WELCOME NEW TARIFF MODEL -- VIETNAM NEWS 

Vietnam and the United States welcomed the new tariff structure. Vietnam will now pay the US a 20 per cent tariff on all goods exported to America and a 40 per cent tariff on any transhipment. 

 

2. ENCOURAGING YOUNG HOUSE BUYERS -- VIETNAMPLUS

The State Bank announced that Vietnamese under 35 years old can now apply for loans to purchase houses under the social housing scheme effective July 1. Borrowers will be charged an annual 5.9 per cent interest for the loans.
