KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is rolling out a series of programmes aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s digital economy and advancing its transition into an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven nation.
Chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil said the milestone reflects the agency’s evolution from its early days to its current role in spearheading the country’s digital transformation.
“This year, we are running programmes for our 30th anniversary. Looking back at our journey, we see how AI has changed the environment and what it means for the 13th Malaysia Plan,” he told Bernama after MDEC’s visit to Wisma Bernama.
Also present were Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Anuar Fariz added that Malaysia is increasingly positioning itself as an AI-driven nation, with digital technologies playing a central role across industries, including media and business operations.
He noted that MDEC continues to focus on initiatives such as market access, business digitalisation and talent development to ensure inclusive growth across the digital ecosystem.
“We focus on how AI and technology increase productivity and make Malaysia more prosperous, ensuring no one is left behind. That is the biggest impact of our 30th anniversary, which is giving back to Malaysia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anuar Fariz also emphasised the need to harness AI and technology to improve efficiency and productivity as global challenges continue to reshape the economic landscape.
He said the current environment, marked by geopolitical uncertainties and energy-related issues, requires a stronger focus on technological adoption to sustain growth and resilience.
“The world is very different now, with geopolitical challenges and energy issues. The key is how we use technology to improve efficiency. AI is the biggest catalyst, and we must leverage it to improve productivity and quality of life for Malaysians.
“Supply chain disruptions remain a key issue. The focus is on how we manage and insulate ourselves. Technology is the best enabler," he added.
