KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Tabung Haji (TH) has contributed nearly RM160,000 to the Bijak Bestari Kampung Bharu programme, aimed at improving the academic performance of asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) students and supporting the government's Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative.

In a statement today, TH said the programme, which also sets out to help those from underprivileged families from being left behind in their studies, involves 100 primary and secondary school students.

It said the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, launched the programme today, also attended by TH group managing director and chief executive officer Syed Hamadah Syed Othman.

"Thank you and congratulations to TH for supporting the MADANI government's efforts in helping the rural communities, especially in the area of educational development through this Bijak Bestari Kampung Bharu programme," said Na'im during the launch.

According to the statement, Na'im said the programme, running from Oct 5 to Dec 14, includes activities such as classes, motivational camps, workshops and seminars to nurture students' interest in attending school.

Meanwhile, Syed Hamadah said the programme, supported by the Federal Territory Foundation, focuses on exciting topics such as science, entrepreneurship, robotics technology and techniques for answering the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

He said it also includes the prospects of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and higher education institutions, career planning and knowledge sharing from experts in relevant fields.

He added the classes, camps, and external workshops focus on instilling good values and encouraging personal development and discipline.

Meanwhile, TH donated a hearse van to the Telekung subdistrict in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, under the adopted village programme and Santuni MADANI initiative.

TH has adopted Kampung Dato Sri Amar Diraja in Muar, Johor and presented RM40,000 to the Bakti Murni Care Centre and Surau Al-Raudah to cover management costs and facility improvements, as well as to carry out 'gotong-royong' activities in the village.
