ALOR GAJAH, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2024 Campus Tour continued in the Southern Zone today, with the presentation of a high-capacity computer and a smart television set to the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Melaka branch.

The contribution, from the Ministry of Communications, was presented by the chief executive officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, to the UiTM Melaka branch’s deputy rector (Student Affairs) Dr Nadzri Mohd Sharif.

The event was also attended by Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the director of the HAWANA 2024 Project, and deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus.

Meanwhile, HAWANA 2024 Secretariat, in a statement, shared that this leg of the tour featured three interactive workshops, designed to address the challenges of today's digital landscape. These included Mobile Journalism (MoJo), a fact-checking session led by Bernama editors, and a talk on 'Klik Dengan Bijak’ by officials from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The event successfully attracted over 300 students and lecturers from the UiTM Melaka and Negeri Sembilan branches, providing a significant platform to foster a deeper understanding of the journalism field.

The programme, organised by Bernama in collaboration with UiTM’s Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, aims to deepen students' understanding of journalism and highlight the importance of responsible media practices.

“This session seeks to guide students in producing high-quality media content while stressing the need for fact-checking to counter the spread of misinformation,” the statement added.

The HAWANA 2024 Campus Tour spans six zones across the country: Sarawak, Sabah, Central, Northern, Southern, and East Coast. The East Coast edition will take place at Sultan Zainal Abidin University (UniSZA), Terengganu, on Dec 12, marking the tour's final stop.

This series of tours is part of the activities held in conjunction with the HAWANA 2024 celebration, organised by the Ministry of Communications, with Bernama as the implementing agency.
