Felda Allocates RM1.16 Million To Assist Flood-affected Settlers

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), through its subsidiaries, has allocated RM1.16 million to aid settlers impacted by this year’s floods.

Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said that the funds would be utilised effectively to manage transportation, provide cleaning supplies, and distribute basic necessities to flood victims.

“I believe that the amount is sufficient for now, and the supplies include some of the basic necessities we had prepared earlier through the Felda Siap Siaga team,” he said.

“Our focus will be on Felda settlements first, as I trust that the state government will extend support to other affected areas,” he added.

Ahmad Shabery was speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the Felda Post-Flood Volunteer Squad’s convoy for the Felda Post-Flood Aid Mission, at the lobby of Menara Felda in Kuala Lumpur, today.

Also present at the event were Felda director-general Datuk Dr Suzana Idayu Wati Osman; FGV Holdings Bhd Group chief executive officer Fakhrunniam Othman; and National Felda Settler head Sulong Jamil.

Ahmad Shabery emphasised that the programme was designed to provide immediate assistance to settlers affected by the flood, offering support in cleaning their homes and surrounding areas. The goal is to help them rebuild and return to a better quality of life, following the disaster.

He further elaborated that 18 Felda settlements had been impacted by the recent flooding, including eight in Felda Wilayah Raja Alias in Negeri Sembilan, six in Felda Wilayah Terengganu, three in Felda Wilayah Trolak in Perak, and one in Felda Wilayah Alor Setar, Kedah.

Felda Wilayah Raja Alias recorded the highest number of affected families, with 117 homes in Jelai Plan 4, followed by Seberang Tayor in Kemaman, Terengganu, where 107 houses were impacted.

“The total number of families affected by the flood disaster is 1,813, and they are currently facing significant challenges in its aftermath,” he said.

“Cleaning-up efforts require energy, and insya-Allah, our squad will complete this mission within this week,” he said.

He further noted that the recent flooding in the Felda settlements was not as severe, compared with other affected areas.

“I consider this disaster to be relatively moderate. While the situation is not as dire, it remains our responsibility to provide aid. We aim to foster a culture of mutual support among Felda staff and settlers, in assisting those in need,” he added.

The aid mission saw collaborative efforts from over 15 entities, including subsidiaries, cooperatives, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Felda NGOs worked alongside the Pertubuhan Sahabat Pertahanan Awam (PeSPA), which provided four-wheel-drive vehicles to assist with the mission.
