PKR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS ENABLE MORE MEMBERS TO VOTE FOR TOP LEADERSHIP - FAHMI

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 (Bernama) — Amendments to PKR's party constitution regarding the election process, approved today, will enable greater participation from members of diverse backgrounds in selecting the party's top leadership in the future, said party information chief Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the amendments allow for an increase in the number of delegates voting for party leadership, as future elections will be conducted in both physical and hybrid formats.

He added that the amendments also include principles for gender and ethnic quotas to ensure inclusivity and to prevent any ethnic group from being left out of the election process.

“This amendment promotes greater fairness while also incorporating digitalisation, allowing division-level voting to be conducted online.

“My hope is that this will enable participation from members of all races, across various states and backgrounds, in the process of selecting the party’s top leadership when the time comes,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending the PKR Special National Congress, officiated by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today.

Elaborating, Fahmi noted that the amendments would also increase the representation of divisions with large memberships in the election process, ensuring fairness for these divisions.

Earlier, the congress approved amendments to the party constitution regarding the election process, allowing for a higher number of delegates to vote for the six top party positions and 20 members of the Central Leadership Council (MPP) at the National Congress.
