Super League: Perak Coach Laments Team's Complacency In Selangor Defeat

MANJUNG, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Perak FC coach Yusri Che Lah is disappointed with his players for allowing Selangor FC to beat them 2-1 at their home ground in the Super League at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium last night.

Yusri hopes his men will learn from the defeat and that complacency and silly mistakes will prove costly to the team.

"When we are complacent, it allows our opponents to capitalise on their chances and they will punish us.

"We played well last night but were denied victory, let alone a share of the spoils,” he told the post-match press conference last night.

What irked Yusri the most was that both the Selangor goals came from quick counterattacks.

"We started well and even put Selangor under pressure but we paid the price for our complacency and they drew first blood (through Alvin Fortes in the 41st minute).

"We tried to bounce back after the break but, again, complacency and mistakes allowed them to punish us a second time (with Fortes netting in the 71st minute). Being two goals down, we tried to chase the game but it was too little, too late (despite Wan Zack Haikal pulling a goal back in the 89th minute),” he said.

Yusri urged his men to put aside the home defeat and get ready for their Malaysia Cup quarter-final, return-leg tie against Sri Pahang FC in Temerloh on Sunday (Dec 22). (Pahang won the first-leg clash 1-0).

Meanwhile, Selangor FC coach Katsuhito Kinoshi was gushing with pride after watching his men snatch all three points.

"I am satisfied with my team's performance... not just the starting 11 but also the substitutes.

"All of them played their part and that was the key to our success. Most importantly, we need to continue to believe in ourselves and our abilities… otherwise, it will be difficult to succeed," he said.
