Melaka JPJ Hauls Up Over 800 Vehicles Since Dec 25

MELAKA, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- A total of 847 vehicles were subjected to enforcement actions and 1,069 notices were issued for various offences during the Ops Khas Lebih Muatan and Ops Gempur Teknikal in Melaka from Dec 25 until today.

Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Muhammad Firdaus Shariff said the notices were issued to companies, vehicle owners and drivers for various offences, including failure to comply with established laws and regulations. This included 177 prohibition notices on vehicle usage and 219 inspection orders.

He said 44 weighing orders were issued under Section 63(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987, eight weighing orders under Section 82(1) of the Land Public Transport Act (APAD) 2010, and four investigation notices under Section 114 of the RTA 1987.

"Throughout the operations, 4,874 vehicles were inspected under the RTA 1987 (Act 333) and APAD 2010 (Act 715), as well as their related regulations," he said during a press conference following the operation here today.

Meanwhile, he said 35 vehicles were weighed and 28 were found to be overloaded during today's operation, conducted from 5 am to 8 am.  

He noted that a lorry was also seized for not having a Competent Driving Licence, a Goods Driving Licence, and for expired motor vehicle licence and insurance.
