Financial Aid For NGOs To Continue, Online Application Begins This Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Starting this year, applications for financial assistance for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to organise unity programmes will be processed through a portal.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the move aligns with public service reforms and good governance practices.

"The improvements made through the Unity Programme Financial Aid Portal are a testament to how technology can be leveraged. With this portal, it is hoped that the application and approval process for financial assistance to NGOs will become more efficient," he said in his speech at the portal's launching ceremony here today.

He explained that online applications would simplify processes and reduce constraints faced by NGOs, thereby expediting the implementation of proposed unity programmes.

According to Aaron, 78 unity programmes led by NGOs in collaboration with the ministry were implemented nationwide last year, involving 621,739 participants.

Additionally, he said 110 NGOs have been recognised as 'Friends of Unity' to partner with the ministry in achieving the aspiration of strengthening unity among Malaysians. Among them are Pertubuhan Kembara Anak Seni Selangor, Pertubuhan Nadi Sihat, Persatuan Siam Malaysia, and Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia.

Meanwhile, at the press conference after the launch Aaron said that the amount of financial assistance approved would depend on the needs of the programmes being carried out.

He said one of the criteria for organising programmes is that they must be centred around the 'Harmony in Diversity' theme, emphasising fundamental components that foster societal cohesion and national harmony, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.

"They are interested and have already submitted proposals for us to review and we are happy with this collaboration," he added.
