KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) dispatched its first convoy under the “Flour for Humanity Programme” to Gaza on Monday (Jan 20), delivering 200 tonnes of wheat flour to address critical food shortages.
Supported by Kazakhstan, the host state of IOFS, and other member states, IOFS said the aid targets Gaza’s urgent needs following months of conflict, which have left over 1.84 million people hungry.
In a statement, IOFS said as host state, Kazakhstan has played a key role in supporting the Flour for Humanity Programme.
“Kazakhstan’s leadership and steadfast support for IOFS have been integral in enabling the organisation’s humanitarian activities, including the Flour for Humanity Programme. This underscores the country’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and humanitarian crises globally,” IOFS stated.
IOFS Director General Berik Aryn and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Jordan, Talgat Shaldanbay, attended the handover ceremony at the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) warehouse in Zarqa, Jordan.
Aryn expressed gratitude to donors and partners, underscoring IOFS’s commitment to neutrality and transparency.
He urged continued support to sustain relief efforts and assist in Gaza’s recovery.
