Kelantan KPDN Plans To Expand Rahmah Sales To Rural Areas This Year

KOTA BHARU, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kelantan branch plans to expand the Rahmah Sale initiative to rural areas, following its successful implementation in Kampung Pasir Kelang, Kuala Krai, last year.

State KPDN director Azman Ismail said that goods were transported by ferry to ensure that residents in the area could easily benefit from the programme.

“Residents in rural areas often face challenges in accessing basic goods, and incur additional transportation costs to travel to urban centres. Thus, this initiative aims to alleviate their financial burden,” he told reporters, after the launch of the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Chinese New Year, today. 

He also announced plans to hold four Rahmah Sales in each state constituency across the state this year.

This initiative builds on last year’s success, which saw two Rahmah Sales held in each constituency, resulting in a total of 758 sales events.

“This initiative aims to ensure that everyone in the state can benefit from lower prices on essential goods, helping to ease the cost of living.

Last year’s Rahmah Sales generated RM36 million in total revenue, with a federal government subsidy of RM9.1 million.

“In addition, we were collaborating with 30 operators to supply goods at Rahmah Sale locations throughout 2024,” he said.

Additionally, Azman disclosed that, as of Jan 26 this year, the state KPDN had recorded 89 cases involving seizures valued at RM176,000.

“Eighteen arrests have been made, most of which are related to offences under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,” he added.
