Police Nab Six For Role In ATM Scam

SHAH ALAM, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Six individuals, including a Vietnamese woman, were arrested recently for their involvement in an ATM cash withdrawal syndicate linked to scam activities across the Klang Valley.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the group acted as cash couriers, withdrawing money using various ATM cards before handing it over to different syndicates.

The suspects received ATM cards from other syndicates’ runners and were instructed via Telegram and WhatsApp.

“Their daily withdrawal target was RM200,000, which was then handed over for purposes including digital currency purchases.

“Authorities have frozen 122 bank accounts used by the syndicate, believed to be mule accounts, and are working to identify the actual owners,” he told a press conference here today.

In a separate case, police on Jan 25 arrested a pickpocket gang known as “Geng Nguyen,” consisting of three Vietnamese nationals and a Jordanian man, for stealing iPhones in the Klang Valley.

“The gang stole 13 smartphones, including 12 iPhones, and had been active since December last year. The Jordanian suspect acted as their getaway driver, while the stolen phones were taken to Vietnam for resale,” Hussein said.

The suspects have been linked to at least eight reported thefts in malls across Serdang, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Kuala Lumpur, he said.
