Selangor State Assembly Approves Trust Fund To Strengthen Enforcement Against Illegal Factories

SHAH ALAM, July 8 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state assembly today approved the establishment of the Illegal Factories Trust Fund (KWA-KTK) to strengthen enforcement under the state’s illegal factories legalisation programme.

State executive councillor for Tourism and Local Government, Datuk Ng Suee Lim, said the fund is necessary to ensure that enforcement actions are not perceived as weak or taken lightly by operators who construct factories in prohibited or unsuitable areas.

He said the state government, through the Selangor Land and Mines Office, has compiled centralised data to enable more targeted and evidence-based enforcement and remediation efforts.

“As of June 30, a total of 4,305 complaints related to illegal factories have been recorded statewide,” he said during the winding-up speech on the resolution to establish the trust fund under Section 10 of the Financial Procedure Act 1957.

Ng had earlier explained that the KWA-KTK will cover expenses related to enforcement operations involving state-owned and private land occupied by illegal factories.

“It will also fund engagement programmes and publicity efforts directly linked to the objectives of the trust fund, as well as other activities involving unauthorised factories in Selangor,” he said.
