MARA To Monitor Well-being, Academic Performance Of Putri Qisya

JITRA, July 12 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) will continue to monitor the well-being and academic progress of Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, 12, the eldest child of the couple who perished in a drowning tragedy at Sungai Korok. She has since been adopted as a foster child of the agency.

MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the agency is committed to helping Putri Qisya maintain her academic excellence and fulfill her aspiration to study at a MARA Junior Science College (MRSM).

He said MARA will ensure the Standard Six pupil sustains her performance through additional academic support.

“We will provide special tuition for her and guide her in preparing for the MRSM entrance examination. God willing, we will help her achieve her dream of enrolling at MRSM. Our support begins now,” he told reporters here today.

Earlier, Asyraf Wajdi, who is also UMNO secretary-general, officiated the 2025 UMNO Kubang Pasu Division Delegates’ Meeting.

He added that MARA has instructed its Kedah state office to liaise with the administration of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seberang Perak Baru in Alor Setar, where Putri Qisya is currently enrolled.

“We hope her studies will not be affected by the tragedy. It’s not easy for a child of her age to cope with such a loss.

“When I met her, I reminded her to stay focused and honour the wishes and dreams of her late parents,” he said.

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that MARA would support Putri Qisya as a foster child under its care until she reaches the university level.

Putri Qisya had previously expressed her wish to pursue secondary education at MRSM, fulfilling her late parents’ hopes.

She is the eldest daughter of Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, 32, and Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31, who were found dead along with four of their children inside a Proton Iswara believed to have plunged into Sungai Korok last Monday.

The couple’s other children who also perished were Putra Rayyan Nur Izzat, 9, Hawa Adriana Nur Izzat, 8, Annayla Humaira Nur Izzat, 7, and Tuah Haydar, six months.
