IPOH, July 13 (Bernama) -- The Perak Sports Carnival (SUPER) 2025 is the perfect platform to unearth new talent for the Perak contingent for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 in Selangor.
State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the choice of sports contested in SUPER 2025 - table tennis, volley ball, basket ball, hockey, archery and sepak takraw - was made based on several factors, including the lack of participants from Perak in SUKMA 2024.
“Through SUPER, we have the chance to assess directly the potential of athletes at the grassroots level who may have yet to be exposed to competitive competitions.
“Those identified have the potential to be absorbed into the SUKMA trainee programme and coached as our preparations for SUKMA 2026,” he said when met by Bernama after the close of SUPER 2025 at the Ipoh City Council Sports Complex Badminton Arena near here today.
He added that SUPER was vital in ensuring the continuity of athlete development and talent scouting, and assisted in the nurturing of quality athletes to represent the state at the national level.
Mualim district emerged overall champion with a tally of 10 gold, seven silver and eight bronze, followed by Kinta with seven gold, six silver and a bronze, while Manjung finished third with three gold and six bronze in SUPER 2025, which began on July 10 ended today with the participation of over 1,200 athletes from 12 districts in the state.
