GEORGE TOWN, July 24 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has held discussions with the Penang City Council (MBPP) to forge a collaboration to expand the implementation of the Authorised Automotive Treatment Facility (AATF) in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia.
Its Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative is a strategic step in addressing the issue of abandoned vehicles dumping around Penang which not only affects the city's scenery, but also poses safety and environmental risks.
“I recently received a delegation from MBPP in Kuala Lumpur to discuss cooperation in expanding the implementation of AATF in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia.
“This discussion is very meaningful in finding a long-term solution to the problem of abandoned vehicles around Penang,” he said in a post on his Facebook tonight.
He said through the implementation of the e-Dereg system and the use of AATF facilities licensed by the Department of Environment, the vehicle disposal process can be carried out more efficiently, safely and environmentally friendly without requiring the owner to appear at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) counter.
Loke also appreciated MBPP’s commitment in supporting the implementation of this new approach as part of efforts to strengthen the city’s sustainability and the well-being of the people.
