KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today received courtesy visits from the South Korean President’s Special Envoy Kim Young Choon and Romanian Ambassador to Malaysia Nineta Bǎrbulescu at the Courtesy Room, in Parliament.
Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said in the meeting Kim expressed the high commitment of the new South Korean government in advancing green energy development and comprehensive carbon reduction efforts.
"We also exchanged views on efforts to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea, especially within the framework of a more sustainable and integrated ASEAN Energy Grid," he said in a post on Facebook today.
According to Fadillah, Kim also announced South Korea's readiness to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministers' Meeting (EMM) scheduled to be held in August.
As Malaysia's eighth largest trading partner, Fadillah said he hoped that cooperation in the field of energy transition and water sector transformation could continue to be enhanced for the sake of sustainable development together.
Meanwhile, in his meeting with Bǎrbulescu, Fadillah praised the country's hard work in developing the green energy sector.
"Although Romania is a country with a population of around 19 million, the country's hard work in developing the green energy sector deserves praise and recognition," he also said.
He added that through the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and Malaysia's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2050, Malaysia is ready to forge closer cooperation with strategic trading partners, including from Eastern Europe, in strengthening the green energy sector towards inclusive and sustainable development.
