KPDN Makes Application For More Officers, Members To Increase Enforcement

KOTA BHARU, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has made an application to increase the number of officers and members to further expand enforcement of the government's new policies.

Its deputy director-general (Enforcement) Aris Mamat said the application was made as his department had constraints on existing members and officers when carrying out enforcement.

"Last year, we added more than 200 members and officers nationwide, and this year we are also applying for more.

"The recruitment of these members and officers is usually determined by the Public Service Department (JPA)," he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the Inter-Agency Sports Championship to Strengthen Synergy at the Sports and Youth Complex, in Panji here today.

Explaining further, Aris said, however, this increase in membership depends on the warrant (quota) and its distribution will be decided by the JPA.

"We are applying, but the decision (total) depends on the JPA and currently we have a total of 2,300 officers and members nationwide.

"We need this increase in officers and members for effectiveness at all levels because we have 13 acts that require more members to assist the government, especially in terms of control when the government makes new policies," he said.

He also said his party would continue to cooperate with other agencies to curb the leakage of controlled substances.

"Without the cooperation from various agencies, it is impossible for us to curb illegal activities," he added.
