MUAR, July 27 (Bernama) -- A student of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Parit Bakar Tengah, here, Nur Arsyila Raesha Abdul Aziz, was filled with pride and joy as she had the honour of carrying the Jalur Gemilang to be handed over to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today at the launch of the 2025 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign.
Dressed in a striking modern green baju kurung, nine-year-old Nur Arsyila carried the national flag, which she received from the local fishing community, to be used by the Prime Minister to flag off participants of the Jalur Gemilang 2025 Merdeka Convoy.
The second of three siblings, Nur Arsyila said she has always enjoyed patriotic activities and recently took part in a patriotic song singing competition.
"I was nervous to participate in this programme, especially when I had to face the Prime Minister, whom I had only seen on television before. I will remember this experience forever," he told Bernama after the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign (MPBKKJG 2025) at Dataran Tanjung Emas, here, today.
Meanwhile, the girl’s uncle, Muhammad Suhaimi Abd Rahman, 40, said he had consistently encouraged his niece to participate in programmes related to nationalism and patriotism to help nurture her love for the country from a young age.
Earlier, Anwar flagged off the convoy, involving the participation of various levels of society, including civil servants, the gig community, motoring enthusiasts and members of the security forces.
For the first time, the convoy also involved the participation of local fishermen, with them flying the Jalur Gemilang on their boats at the Muar River.
A total of 59 fishing boats belonging to the local fishing community, two boats belonging to the Marine Department, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) (three boats), and the marine police (two boats) were decorated with the Jalur Gemilang.
On land, the convoy involved 88 vehicles, involving 133 participants from various agencies and organisations such as the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Pos Malaysia, Johor government departments and agencies, the Johor BMW K16 Motoring Club and the gig economy.
The convoy will pass through 88 checkpoints, namely 44 in the peninsula, Sabah (20), Sarawak (22) and two in the Federal Territory of Labuan, before arriving at Dataran Putrajaya on August 31, the location of the 2025 National Day celebration
