Kelana Jaya Line Signal Upgrade To Impact Over 27,000 Commuters – Prasarana

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- Upgrading works on the Kelana Jaya Line signalling system are expected to affect more than 27,000 train commuters, according to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) group chief operating officer (Strategy and Development), Dr. Prodyut Dutt. 

He said the system upgrade will be carried out in two phases, with Phase 2 scheduled from Aug 9 to Sept 14 involving 10 stations from KLCC to Gombak, while Phase 3 will take place from Oct 11 to Nov 22, covering 17 stations from Lembah Subang to Ampang Park.

“We are going to upgrade all the signals, both software and hardware, because both are obsolete. We are also implementing critical enhancements for cybersecurity and data analytics,” he said during a press conference here today.

According to him, the upgrading works are necessary to overhaul the system that has been in operation for 25 years, enhancing safety and reliability while minimising the risk of future service disruptions.

He said that the train operations at the affected stations will begin at 9am, instead of 6am, to allow comprehensive testing of the new signalling system before its full implementation.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd acting chief executive officer, Nor Azmi Mohd Yusof, said following the upgrading works, the vending machines for purchasing travel tokens will only be operational from 8.45am to avoid confusion among passengers.

“Commuters need not worry as free feeder buses and vans will be provided to connect the affected stations and ensure smooth travel,” he said during a briefing on the Kelana Jaya Line operations plan at the press conference.

Nor Azmi said 13 feeder buses, five shuttle buses and five vans will be mobilised throughout Phase 2, while Phase 3 will involve the deployment of 60 buses and five vans to facilitate passenger movement.

Meanwhile, in a statement today, Prasarana announced that station staff, auxiliary police, and Prasarana Troopers (trained volunteers) will be stationed at the affected and integrated stations to assist passengers as needed.
