MELAKA, July 30 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with this year's National Month, McDonald's Malaysia is embracing patriotism by participating in various 'Merdeka’ (Independence) initiatives, including the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy, which kicked off on Sunday (July 27).
McDonald's Malaysia senior vice-president and chief impact officer Melati Abdul Hai said that through the KMJG, a total of 15 McDonald's restaurants would be used as stopover locations for the motorcycle convoy, which will travel to 88 selected areas nationwide.
She added that McDonald's Malaysia joined the Communications Ministry-organised programme to join in the celebration that is so meaningful to the country and the people of Malaysia, in addition to enhancing the spirit of the Jalur Gemilang and bringing joy to all Malaysians.
"As a brand that has grown together with the people of Malaysia for the past 43 years, we believe that the National Day celebration is a pivotal moment for us to be united, celebrate diversity and express our love for the country.
"As such, McDonald's Malaysia joined this initiative to play a bigger role as a local company, making our restaurants a place for Malaysians to further strengthen the spirit of patriotism and togetherness by celebrating independence,” she told reporters after the 2025 KMJG Programme at the Batu Berendam McDonald's Restaurant here today.
The programme was officiated by state Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Allex Seah Shoo Chin, also the Kesidang state assemblyman.
Melati said the KMJG convoy's first stop was at McDonald's Kluang in Johor on Monday (July 28) and its second stop was at the Batu Berendam McDonald’s here today, before its final stop at the Pantai Sentral Park McDonald's Drive-Thru in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 16.
She said various exciting independence-themed activities are lined up at all the restaurants earmarked as stopovers for the convoy, including the distribution of free Jalur Gemilang, the Merdeka edition drive-thru stickers, special Merdeka edition food vouchers and free McDonald's Sunday cones, interactive activities with families and National Day-themed restaurant decorations.
"McDonald's Malaysia is also pleased to invite all Malaysians to celebrate the 'Ambang Merdeka’ celebration at Putrajaya Precinct 2 McDonald's Drive-Thru from Aug 29-31.
"For a meaningful and fitting finale, McDonald's Malaysia will also take part in the 2025 National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya, besides distributing 50,000 free food vouchers and 2,500 limited 'Mekdi’-edition prizes to visitors,” she said.
She added that throughout July and August, McDonald's Malaysia, through its more than 370 restaurants nationwide, is also providing free meals to all uniformed personnel as a token of appreciation for their invaluable service in maintaining peace and security for the welfare of the people.
On July 27, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim flagged off the 2025 KMJG convoy at Dataran Tanjung Emas in Muar, Johor, marking the official start of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 celebrations.
