Festival Sarikei Rebrand Reaffirms Sarikei As Modern Agriculture Hub, Tourist Destination

SIBU, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- The rebranding of the Sarikei Pineapple and Fruit Pesta to Festival Sarikei this year reaffirms Sarikei division’s position as a modern agriculture hub and community-based tourism destination.

Sarawak Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the rebranding reflected the change of times and current needs, and that the festival’s slogan - Unite in Culture, Rich in Heritage - carried a meaningful message in efforts to foster unity and appreciation for culture and diversity.

“Today, (the festival) has a new ‘face’ as Festival Sarikei, a bigger, inclusive and high-impact platform, not only highlighting agricultural produce but featuring arts, culture, heritage and community entrepreneurship,” he said when representing Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to officiate Festival Sarikei 2025 at Passenger Terminal 1 here today.

He urged visitors to not only be guests but take on the role of a ‘development partner’ to help drive Sarikei towards being a progressive, competitive and resilient district.

“I invite everyone to participate in every activity, support local products and more importantly, gain knowledge from experiences offered throughout this festival,” he said.

He also thanked Sarawak premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak government for their continued support in developing Sarikei, especially in tourism, modern agriculture and community-based economy.
