KMJG 2025 Convoy Kicks Off Day Two With Heartfelt Welcome At SMK Batu Maung

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The second day of the Penang state-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 continued with visits to three more districts, beginning with the Barat Daya district at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Maung this morning.

The convoy and guests arrived at 8 am and were greeted with a warm welcome by the school community. The event featured a vibrant performance of Chinese drums by students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Wen Khai, as well as students dressed in traditional attire representing Malaysia’s multiracial society - a symbol of national unity and harmony.

The celebration opened with an emotional patriotic narrative titled ‘Lembaran Kisah Seutas Gelang: Datuk Siti Rahmah Kassim’, performed by Kumpulan Gema Nusantara from SMK Batu Maung, highlighting the sacrifices of women in the fight for independence.

This was followed by a lively boria performance by the Seri Damar group from Sekolah Kebangsaan Permatang Damar Laut, culminating in a patriotic rendition of the Jalur Gemilang song and flag-waving.

The KMJG 2025 convoy in the Barat Daya district was officially launched by Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, who is also the Batu Maung assemblyman. The event was also attended by state Information Department (JaPen) director Hasmiza Hussin.

Hasmiza said the KMJG 2025 convoy is being held under the concept of passing the national flag along state borders across the country.

“The journey in Penang began yesterday, covering Seberang Perai Selatan and Seberang Perai Tengah, and continued today in the Barat Daya district, with SMK Batu Maung as the first checkpoint. The convoy will next proceed to the Timur Laut and Seberang Perai Utara districts before being handed over to Kedah as part of the National Month celebration,” she said.

She added that the state-level KMJG 2025 involved participation of various agencies included the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Broadcasting Department, the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Department of Community Communications (J-KOM), and Pos Malaysia.

Also taking part in the convoy were representatives from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), as well as a motorcycle group from the Northern V-Strom Owners (NVO) Motor Club.
