MACC, AKPS To Boost Strategic Cooperation In Border Operations

07/08/2025 05:45 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has expressed its readiness to establish strategic cooperation with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), particularly in operations and training involving officers from the agency.

This commitment was conveyed during AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain’s courtesy call on MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the MACC headquarters here today.

Azam said AKPS was a newly established agency that played a vital role in national security, and the MACC was prepared to provide full support to ensure their common goals were achieved.

“Several issues involving AKPS have already been on the MACC’s radar, but resolving them has been challenging. With the cooperation that is about to be established, we are confident that outstanding matters can be resolved more smoothly,” he said in a statement today.

Azam also proposed a form of incentive for AKPS officers stationed at the border as encouragement and motivation for them to carry out their duties with greater enthusiasm and high integrity.

“The MACC fully supports this proposal because incentives can serve as a morale booster and at the same time help curb complacency among frontline personnel at the country’s borders,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shuhaily said the meeting served as an important platform for both parties to exchange views on operational strategies, anti-corruption measures, and efforts to enhance the integrity of officers working in border areas.

“This cooperation is expected to further strengthen border control systems and shape a team of officers with higher integrity in carrying out their duties,” he said.

Also present were MACC’s Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus and Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin; as well as AKPS’ deputy director-general (policy) Datuk Sazali Mohamad and deputy director-general (management) Ismail Mokhtar.

For the record, Mohd Shuhaily was appointed as AKPS director-general under the Home Ministry for a two-year term from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
