BANGKOK, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Thai Foreign Ministry organised the ASEAN Family Run 2025 on Friday to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN Community.

The Malaysian Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Thailand, Bong Yik Jui, said it was encouraging to see Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) team participating in the event.

Bong noted that Thailand, together with Malaysia and Indonesia, was among the founding members of ASEAN, and all three nations continue to demonstrate their commitment to promoting peace and prosperity across all sectors in the region.

"Thanks to Thailand’s MFA for organising the ASEAN Family Run 2025 and the flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the 58th anniversary of ASEAN’s founding.

"Everyone appeared satisfied and cheerful. I’m looking forward to similar events in the years to come," he told Bernama after the event on Friday.

Approximately 500 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, Sectoral Dialogue Partners, and Development Partners, as well as representatives from government agencies, the private sector, international organisations, and the general public, took part in the event at Lumpini Park here.

In his brief opening remarks, Maris stated that this year marks the first time the Department of ASEAN Affairs and MFAs have hosted the event, which coincides with ASEAN Day, established 58 years ago.

"Thailand, as one of the initiators, aims to see ASEAN become stronger, more cooperative, and committed to advancing the region towards a resilient society and economy," he said.

The ASEAN Family Run 2025 featured a 2.5-kilometre walk-run around Lumpini Park. Prior to the run, the ASEAN Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held to commemorate ASEAN Day.

The event aimed to foster unity and solidarity among the ASEAN family, while also promoting healthy and balanced lifestyles, in line with ASEAN’s vision of building a resilient, inclusive, and people-centred community.
